====== Introduction to Microsoft Word ====== We use Microsoft Word to create, edit and publish documents. Here we will give you a quick introduction to it. Clicking the picture will open it up in full screen, you will then need to click the back arrow to go back to the Wiki after. {{ :mswordbasic01.png?direct |}} When you first open Microsoft Word you are greeted by this page where you can create the word document. \\ **Red Box - Rececently accessed files** \\ This is where your recently opened/edited files will appear. You can use the **Search Bar** above to search for a previously accessed document. \\ **Blue Box - Templates** \\ This is where you are given the option to chose a template for you word document. You can select one from the list or click "More templates -->" to show more templates. \\ **Yellow Box - Document Settings** \\ This is where you can manage the document that you are creating. **Home** is where you are taken to when first opening Word, **Open** allows you to open another document and **New** allows you to create a new document. \\ \\ \\ ===== Microsoft Word Layout ===== Once your document has been created it will be opened and you will be greeted by the **Ribbon** at the top of the window. {{ :mswordbasic02.png?direct |}} **Green Box - Ribbon** \\ The Ribbon holds all of the tools used to edit and manage a word document. The tabs are also located inside of the Ribbon. \\ **Yellow Box - Quick Save Settings** \\ The quick save settings give you the option to enable "AutoSave" and you can quickly save your progress by clicking the save icon next to the "AutoSave" button. \\ **Red Box - Tabs** \\ When you first open your word document you are greeted by the "Home" tab. This has the basic tools for editing your word document (font, text size, text colour, text layout, text templates and much more). The other tabs are: File, Insert, Draw, Design, Layout, References, Mailings, Review, View and Help. **Blue Box - Document Layout Settings** \\ Located at the bottom right of the Microsoft Word software is the Document Layout Settings. You are given the option to change how the document is viewed/edited. For example, you can change the layout to a book. You are also given the option to change the zoom. By default the zoom is 100% but you can zoom from anywhere inbetween 10% - 500%. \\ \\ \\ ===== Saving a Document ===== Once you have edited your document it will need saving. There are a couple of ways in which this can be done. \\ **1st - Manually Saving** - Click the File Tab > click Save As > Click "Browse" > Choose a location > Rename the file > Click "Save" {{ :mswordbasic03.png?direct |}} \\ **2nd - Quick Saving** - Enabling "AutoSave" or clicking the "Save" button. {{ :mswordbasic04.png?direct |}} Once you have **Manually Saved** the document you can save any changes you make by either enabling "AutoSave" or clicking the "Save" icon. \\ \\ \\ {{ :mswordtabstools01.png?direct |}} When you first open Microsoft Word you are greeted by your document and the Ribbon at the top of the window. Inside of the Ribbon is 11 tabs, which are pictured above. Each tab has its own set of tools which can be used to edit and manage the word document. \\ \\ ===== File ===== {{ :mswordtabstools02.png?direct |}} The 'File' tab is used to manage your word document and other word documents. You can save, open, print, share and export your document. You're also given the option to open previous documents and create a new document using one of the templates. \\ \\ **Yellow Box** - This is where we can Save, Print, Share and Export documents. We sometimes export documents to pdf's \\ \\ **Blue Box** - This is where you can choose a template and then create an additional document. When chosing a template it will ask if you want to create it and will then open another word document window. \\ \\ **Red Box** - This is where you can open one of your previously accessed documents. You can also search for one in the search box. You're also able to pin documents and they will come under 'Pinned'. Documents that have been shared by another user appear under 'Share with Me' \\ \\ \\ ===== Tabs ===== ** Home ** {{ :mswordtabstools03.png?direct |}} **Inside of Microsoft Word if you hover the mouse over the tool it will say its name and information about it** \\ \\ \\ ** Insert ** {{ :mswordtabstools04.png?direct |}} \\ \\ ** Draw ** {{ :mswordtabstools05.png?direct |}} In the drawing tab you can adding drawings to your word document.
